Man found dead in El Monte; cause of death investigated

EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in El Monte.

The victim was found around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of San Gabriel and Rosemead boulevards. The man appeared to have sustained significant trauma to his head and body, according to the sheriff's department.

Authorities say initial reports that the victim suffered stab wounds turned out to be "inconclusive" and the cause of death remains under investigation.
