Gas prices rising to more than $3 per gallon

Gas prices are likely to go up in California due to the explosion at the Exxon Mobil refinery in Torrance. (KABC)

In the Long Beach area, the average price for a gallon of regular gas climbed to $3.07, which is up $0.18 within the last week and $0.58 within the last month.

Drivers in Orange County on average are paying $3.06 per gallon. It is $0.05 cheaper in the Inland Empire at $3.01 per gallon.

One of the factors in the rising gas prices is the Exxon Mobil refinery fire that happened in Torrance Wednesday. Investigators say the fire was triggered by too much pressure in the equipment, but the cause of that abundance of pressure is still being looked at.

The blast jolted nearby residents, many of whom said it felt like a small earthquake. Only minor injuries were reported from the fire.
