Drunk driver causes fatal, head-on crash in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An alleged drunk driver crossed into opposing lanes in Highland Park and crashed head-on with another car, killing a 68-year-old man inside.

The 24-year-old Los Angeles resident crashed his 2015 Chevy Camaro into a Hyundai Elantra at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 4600 block of Marmion Way. Los Angeles police believe he was driving at least 80 miles per hour at the time.

He suffered head trauma and a leg injury. LAPD officers arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

The 68-year-old man, identified as Samir Michel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
