LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- The death of a Lancaster infant is being investigated by sheriff's homicide detectives.

Authorities say family members called 911 on Tuesday at 9:09 p.m. after 7-month-old Terran Pettaway Jr. was injured at the home in the 2300 block of East Avenue J-8.

The infant was rushed to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, where he underwent emergency surgery for a traumatic brain injury but did not survive.

"A preliminary investigation revealed family members' account of how the infant was injured are inconsistent with the type of injury the infant sustained," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
