Suspicious package near Beverly Center cleared by LAPD

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An LAPD bomb squad investigated a suspicious package near 3rd Street and Orlando Avenue in Los Angeles Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the area, which is located blocks away from the Beverly Center, at about 9:30 p.m. Nearby restaurants, businesses and homes were evacuated.

The bomb squad investigated the package, which turned out to be an environmental testing container. The canister was being used to test chemicals in the air outside a dry cleaning business.

The scene was cleared shortly after midnight.
