6th dog found with chemical burns on back

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A sixth dog suffering chemical burns to its back was found in the high desert Thursday.

The Chihuahua named Taco was found abandoned in the streets of Apple Valley. He had severe burns along his back.

"This is definitely something he could have died from. Just the after setting infection, him becoming weak and not eating," veterinary assistant Tamara Leary said.

Last week, a pit bull named Crissie was found with severe burns on her back in the Antelope Valley. Two of the six dogs found with corrosive burns had to be euthanized because of the severity of their injuries.

Investigators have not been able to determine if the burn injuries were intentional or done by some other cause. They continue to work with animal care and chemical experts to determine the origin of the burns.

Taco is being taken care of by Doggy Smiles Rescue. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the culprits.
