Car spins out of control, hits tree, jumps sidewalk curb in Lynwood; 2 people killed

LYNWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people were killed and two others were injured when a car careened out of control, slammed into a tree and jumped a sidewalk curb in Lynwood early Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. near Atlantic and Carlin avenues. Police said the car was traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue when it lost control, went into a spin and struck a tree on the west sidewalk.

The car then jumped over the sidewalk curb, slid across a parking lot and came to rest against a building adjacent to the lot, investigators said.

Two passengers were ejected and died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
