29-year-old swimmer dies after disappearing in Zuma Beach surf

MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- A 29-year-old male swimmer who disappeared in the waters of Zuma Beach died Sunday.

The swimmer was reported missing at about 3:45 p.m., Los Angeles County fire officials said.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department helicopter team spotted the swimmer in the water and recovered his body. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics quickly performed CPR.

He was pronounced dead at about 5:15 p.m.

Los Angeles County Lifeguards Capt. Ken Haskett said the area was experiencing large surf and warned swimmers and surfers to understand their skill level.

The rescue was among 270 total ocean rescues from San Pedro to Zuma Beach on Sunday.
