Drive-by shooting injures 5-year-old child, woman at birthday party in South LA

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A woman and a 5-year-old child were struck in a drive-by shooting during a birthday party on Saturday in South Los Angeles. Four male suspects remained at large.

The shooting was reported at about 5:20 p.m. at 97th and Hoover streets. The 18-year-old woman was shot in the chest and the child was hit in the arm. Both were taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Authorities initially reported that the woman was the child's mother, but she is actually a relative.

No arrests were immediately made. Los Angeles police believe the shooting may be gang-related.
