CANYON COUNTRY, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman tried to run away after giving birth in a Canyon Country wash early Monday morning, Santa Clarita sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies received a 911 call shortly before 6 a.m. from a man saying a woman was giving birth in a wash located behind the Metrolink Station at Via Princessa and White Canyon Road.

When sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, they found a newborn baby girl with the man who made the 911 call. The man told deputies that the mother ran away into the wash immediately after giving birth.

Deputies conducted a search for the woman and found her in the wash at 6:45 a.m. Both the infant and woman were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in good condition.

It's not clear what charges, if any, the woman may face. The incident was under investigation.
