Newport Beach man arrested in hit-run involving 14-year-old girl

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 36-year-old man accused in a hit-and-run crash in Newport Beach that left a 14-year-old girl in critical condition turned himself in to police Wednesday afternoon.

Michael George, of Newport Beach, was booked for felony hit-and-run.

On Tuesday night, a girl was riding her bicycle eastbound along East Bay Avenue near Anade Avenue in an area known to locals as Balboa Village. She was struck by a silver or white Mercedes-Benz traveling westbound on East Bay Avenue.

Witnesses said the girl was riding with friends and was not wearing a helmet when she was thrown from the bike.

She remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.
