Hazmat situation prompts evacuation of Inglewood courthouse

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A hazmat situation prompted the evacuation of the second floor of the Inglewood courthouse Monday afternoon.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials responded to the courthouse at 1 E. Regent Street shortly before 3 p.m.

Am employee was treated for a minor hand injury after opening an envelope with a hazardous substance, and a total of 14 people were ordered to go through a decontamination process.

Tests conducted by a hazmat team and county fire department investigators determined there was no hazardous substance.

An investigation is underway to determine what the substance was and who sent the envelope.
