LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people were in critical but stable condition after a violent car crash in Long Beach early Monday.

Officials said the driver lost control and hit a tree around 2:30 a.m. on east Los Coyotes Diagonal and Stearnlee Avenue.

The car ended up on the other side of the road and caught fire, but the driver and a passenger were extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital.

Officials said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor.
