Arcadia hit-and-run kills 77-year-old woman, police say

ARCADIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities said a man was taken into custody after a hit-and-run crash killed a 77-year-old woman in Arcadia on Wednesday.

Arcadia police said the collision happened at the intersection of Baldwin and Arcadia avenues at about 9:45 p.m.

The woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a vehicle heading north on Baldwin Avenue, according to officials.

Police said the driver, identified as 51-year-old Alex Cerna of Pasadena, fled the scene.

The woman, an Arcadia resident, was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Witnesses were able to provide investigators with a vehicle description and license plate number.

Officers tracked down Cerna at his home and he was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter, felony driving under the influence, and felony hit and run.
