Big rig crash snarls traffic on SB 15 Fwy in Cajon Pass

CAJON PASS, Calif. (KABC) -- An overturned big rig has blocked all but one lane of the southbound 15 Freeway near Highway 138 in the Cajon Pass, snarling traffic in the area.

The tractor-trailer was traveling on the southbound 15 Freeway shortly after midnight Monday when it sideswiped another big rig, collided with a guardrail and then overturned.

The driver of the overturned big rig was briefly trapped in the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said. He was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

The overturned big rig began spilling soy milk onto the freeway, prompting a massive clean-up effort. Caltrans was also assessing the guardrail damage.

CHP officials have since reopened only one lane of the southbound 15 Freeway. It's unclear if the crash was weather-related but the closure is expected to last at least three hours as the tractor-trailer is offloaded and then turned upright.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian was struck and killed on the right shoulder of the southbound 15 Freeway at Joshua Street in Hesperia. Only one lane of the freeway is open in the area, the CHP said. The coroner has been called to the scene.
