MONROVIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Five-hundred students were evacuated from Canyon Oaks High School Monday after an odor from the chemistry lab prompted firefighters to respond.

Monrovia firefighters were called to Canyon Oaks High School about an odor coming from the chemistry lab at 12:28 p.m. Monday.

Several students reported having itchy throats and were treated on scene. A teacher was also evaluated.

At least three patients treated at the scene and were in stable condition, according to the department.

The chemistry lab was contained and firefighters assessed the campus, located at 930 Royal Oaks Drive, as a precaution, and 500 students were evacuated.

Firefighters determined there was no additional threat. No smoke or fire was found.

Parents wishing to pick up their students may coordinate with the Monrovia Police Officer on scene at the east side of the school on Royal Oaks and Mountain Ave.
