CHP warns of dangerous freeway skateboarding videos
Officials are warning about a new video trend that features skateboarding on freeways.

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A new dangerous viral video trend is drawing attention from California law enforcement: skateboarding on the freeways.

Skateboarders have been skating and performing stunts on various freeways, often in the middle of slow traffic, and then posting to social media accounts using #freewaychallenge.

The California Highway Patrol is warning that such stunts are reckless and violators could be subject to pricey citations.

"There's going to be other drivers who are not paying attention to what they're doing. They could be making lane changes. You also have motorcyclists that are sharing the road and they may be passing at a higher rate," said Officer Kevin Tao with the CHP.

Investigators don't think it will be too tough to track down violators through their own social media accounts, especially through videos that show license plate numbers.
