Community outraged by Valencia skateboard shop's social media posts

VALENCIA, Calif. (KABC) -- A skateboard shop in Valencia is under fire after it posted controversial pictures to its social media.

The photos posted to Active Valencia's social media show a young male posing next to California Highway Patrol cruisers while wearing a shirt that reads, "PIGS."

In one photo, the male poses with a skateboard next to the cruiser and the caption includes two emojis - one of a pig and the other a police car.

Shortly after the pictures were posted, many on Facebook took to Active Valencia's Facebook and Twitter pages to express their outrage.

Several called for a boycott of the store and demanded an apology. The controversial pictures have since been removed from Active Valencia's social media.

Active Valencia issued an apology on its Twitter account at about 8 p.m. that simply stated, "We're sorry."

A picture was tweeted as well of a screenshot with the following statement, "We recognize that our post was in poor taste towards law enforcement. We do appreciate what our police and sheriff's do for us and our community."

The skateboard shop gave ABC7 the following written statement:

"Social media is a quick moving form of communication, and sometimes people don't think through the long-term ramifications of a quick post. As a brand Active Ride Shop apologizes for the social media post issued by the Valencia store earlier today. The company has always supported the local law enforcement and community. Active Ride Shop will continue that support into the future."

ABC7 has reached out to the California Highway Patrol for comment and have not yet heard back.
