COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide detectives said there appears to be no foul play involved in the death of a Compton toddler, who was tragically run over by a truck.

Sunday night, detectives arrived at the 600 block of North Willow Avenue in Compton to investigate the death. According to the detectives, the mother's boyfriend was not aware that the child followed him outside of the home when he was backing his truck out of the driveway.

As he was backing out, he felt his truck run over something. When he came out, he discovered that he had run over the child.

While the mother was home at the time of the incident, she said that she did not know the child was outside.

Detectives said that the driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and there were no obvious signs of foul play.

The child died at the scene, but the investigation is still ongoing.
