LITTLEROCK, LOS ANGELES COUNTY (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a corn delivery man in Littlerock Tuesday.

The shooting occurred in the 9800 block of East Avenue W-8 at about 8:11 p.m.

Deputies from the Palmdale sheriff's station responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found 46-year-old Miguel Romero slumped over the steering wheel of his truck with a gunshot wound to his chest. Romero had been delivering corn in the area when he was shot.

His wife told sheriff's deputies she went to search for him when he didn't come home and found him in his vehicle. Romero was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.

His brother, who did not want to provide his name because he feared for his safety, said whomever killed his brother is a "coward" and that Romero was a "family man."

"It makes no sense," Romero's brother said. "He goes to work. He has two kids. He's pretty much trying to provide for his family."

There are no street lights where Romero was shot and killed. The location is remote and neighbors are located acres apart.

One family, who was located miles away from where Romero was shot, said they did not hear any gunshots or noise around the time he may have been killed.

A description of the suspect was not immediately available. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
