VALINDA, Calif. (KABC) -- Investigators are digging a yard at a Valinda home for possible remains linked to a 2009 missing persons case.

Authorities say they started digging at the house in the 700 block of Elsberry Avenue around 9 a.m. after receiving information that remains of a missing person were possibly buried there.

Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

Forensic specialists from the coroner's office and cadaver dogs are aiding investigators in the tedious work of digging and shifting through mounds of dirt.

"The information is pretty specific as to where we're looking in the yards," said Lt. Victor Lewandowski.

The investigation was suspended for the night at about 6 p.m. Thursday, but was expected to continue in the morning.

The missing person was not believed to be a resident at the location.

Officials say the current residents at the home are cooperating with the investigation.

"They are very cooperative with us. Right now, we have some of them at the station," Lewandowski said.

No further details were immediately released.
