Driver who struck, killed motorcyclist on 210 Fwy in Glendora sought

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities are searching for a driver who hit and killed a motorcyclist who lost control of his bike in Glendora.

The incident happened around 5:10 a.m. Monday on the 210 Freeway at Sunflower Avenue near the carpool lane. Authorities said a dark-colored SUV changed lanes in front of a motorcyclist, causing him to lose control and crash in the next lane.

A white early 2000s Toyota Tundra truck then struck the motorcyclist. Authorities said the driver of the truck stopped and spoke with the dying man, but then fled the scene moments later.

The motorcyclist, identified as Raymundo Hernandez, was taken to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

"I hope he'll just turn himself in and give us an explanation on what my son said," Hernandez's father, Raymundo Hernandez Sr. said.

Authorities said the driver would not have faced any charges had he stayed at the scene because he was not at fault for the crash. But since the driver fled, he now faces charges.

Police said they also want to talk to anyone who may have seen what happened that day. Witnesses they spoke to at the scene described the driver as a man in his 30s who wore an orange shirt, jeans and work boots. Authorities said he is about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds.

Hernandez's father said his son was a hard worker and on his way to work in El Monte from Victorville. He said he loved riding motorcycles and being involved in children's sports.

Hernandez leaves behind a wife and two teenage children.

"I know it's hard. But I hope he has the heart to turn himself in and let us know what happened," Hernandez's father said.

The Baldwin Park area California Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
