EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An armed suspect wanted for kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon has been taken into custody after a lengthy barricade in an East Los Angeles home on Wednesday, sheriff's officials said.

Officials said the man was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, but the full circumstances and his condition were not immediately available.

The incident began when deputies with the sheriff department's Special Enforcement Bureau were sent to a residence in the 6400 block of Northside Drive shortly before 11 a.m. Officials warned people to stay clear of the area.

Sheriff's officials said the suspect was the only person inside the house, and investigators had opened a line of communication with him.

Details surrounding the kidnapping and assault were not immediately released. Los Angeles Sheriff's Department homicide detectives are investigating the case.
