Father of 7-year-old Adelanto shooting victim arrested

ADELANTO, Calif. (KABC) -- The father of a 7-year-old shooting victim in Adelanto has been arrested for involuntary manslaughter.

Julio Cervantes Sr. was placed under arrest at 3:30 a.m. Friday and booked at the High Desert Detention Center.

"The homicide investigators spent all night at the family's home. Multiple interviews were conducted," said Cindy Bachman of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities responded to the 18000 block of Bellflower Street just before 5 p.m. Thursday and rushed 7-year-old Daniel Cervantes to Victor Valley Global Medical Center. About an hour later, the boy was declared dead.

A resident reported to deputies that there had been an accidental shooting in the home.

Investigators determined that the child had been shot by his father. The investigation into the incident continues.
