OJAI, Calif. (KABC) -- A high-speed chase led to a suspect driving over a 150-foot cliff in Ventura County on Saturday.

Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department tried to pull the driver over for a traffic stop in Ojai around 4:30 p.m., officials said.

The vehicle sped off and during the chase, it went over the side in the 17000 block of Highway 33 and down a steep embankment.

The unidentified suspect was later rescued and hoisted into a helicopter. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries, sheriff's officials said.

The California Highway Patrol was expected to take over the investigation.
