HOLLYWOOD HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A hired driver trying to flee from an attempted robber ended up flipping over his car and being shot by the suspect in the Hollywood Hills area early Thursday morning.

Authorities said the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of North Troy Drive. The driver was dropping someone off in the neighborhood when that person was confronted by an armed suspect who demanded money, police said.

The woman said she did not have any and the suspect convinced her to call the driver back. When the driver returned, he was confronted by the armed suspect. The driver tried to flee by putting his car in reverse, but ended up flipping the vehicle over and the suspect then shot him, police said.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment in stable condition.

Police first said the driver was with Uber, but then clarified the driver was not part of the ride-share company.

Authorities believe there may have been a second suspect involved and are checking surveillance footage from nearby homes for more clues.

Troy Drive was shut down during the investigation.
