SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KABC) -- The U.S. Coast Guard and a SeaWorld San Diego crew freed a humpback whale entangled in lobster traps off the coast of La Jolla.
Crews were alerted about the whale around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The lobster traps were hindering the whale's swimming ability, Coast Guard officials said.
During the rescue attempt, a Coast Guard boat accidentally sucked up a buoy float line released by SeaWorld as a locating beacon. Oddly enough, the accident wound up untangling the whale and it was able to swim away.
