The investigation began after a woman sent spcaLA a video that showed Almendariz repeatedly striking the dog named Sam. Three German shepherds, including Sam, were later removed his home and brought to spcaLA for medical care.

Almendariz was sentenced to 500 hours of community labor, five years of probation and a 48-week animal abuse counseling program on Friday.

Under the terms, the suspect can't own animals for five years, and must also undergo a psychological evaluation and pay restitution.
