NEW YORK (KABC) -- The New York State Health Department is investigating the Manhattan clinic where Joan Rivers went into cardiac arrest last week.

Rivers, 81, was undergoing a medical procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy when she suddenly had to be rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital on Aug. 28. The comedian died Thursday surrounded by family and friends, her daughter said.

The investigation will determine whether Yorkville Endoscopy would be cited for violations.

Health officials say there are certain types of incidents, including what happened to Rivers, that must be reported to the state but they declined to elaborate on what specifically triggered the investigation.

Before the announcement of her death, E! network said Thursday that Rivers' weekly "Fashion Police" series is on hiatus for two weeks.

ABC News and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
