LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 52-year-old La Puente woman was charged with murder Tuesday on suspicion of running over her boyfriend outside of a motel, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Sharon Kay Hood was charged with a single count of murder that includes a special allegation that she used a dangerous weapon in the crime.

Prosecutors said on Sunday, she and her boyfriend Randolph Morales, 51, were at a motel in the 500 block of North Azusa Avenue that Morales allegedly paid for.

The couple, who had been dating for six years, got into an argument in the room and at some point, Hood left. Morales followed her out of the room to her car where they continued to fight, authorities said.

At that point, Hood is suspected of running over Morales with her car, according to authorities. Morales was pronounced dead at the scene.

If convicted, Hood faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison. The case is still being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
