'Leap second' adds another moment to Tuesday

The world is cautiously preparing for an event taking place Tuesday called a "leap second," when an additional second is added to the clocks to account for the Earth's slightly slower spinning.

Even though it'll happen in the blink of an eye, some fear the added heartbeat could throw off major computer systems.

When the last "leap second" occurred in 2012, internet companies like Reddit, Yelp and LinkedIn got knocked offline. Even Australian airline Quantas saw their computers go down.
