SIMI VALLEY, Calif. -- A 54-year-old man was hospitalized after he was stabbed as part of what police believe was a bar fight in Simi Valley, authorities said.

According to officials, the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 1300 block of E. Los Angeles Avenue.

Investigators believe it started out as a bar fight, which escalated into a stabbing.

The victim, who was alert and talking with emergency personnel, was transported to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center.

Authorities believe there is only one suspect likely involved in the attack, but they did not have a description of the person.

The victim did not provide many details surrounding the attack, police said.
