A man was killed Friday night when he was struck by a van that jumped a curb after the driver sideswiped another car in downtown Burbank.

Authorities said the driver of the van, who is a man in his 30s, was heading westbound down Olive Avenue when he sideswiped another car around 6 p.m. The driver continued heading westbound and then ended up jumping the curb of a sidewalk and hitting the pedestrian.

Surveillance video shows the man walking across the street, noticing the mini-van and then he attempts to flee from the oncoming car, but it's too late.

"The original call came out as somebody underneath a vehicle," Burbank Sgt. Claudio Losacco said.

The victim, who was in his 60s, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released.

The driver was listed in serious condition, and authorities said he appeared to have been injured before the crash. David Schoenbrum, whose car was sideswiped by the mini-van driver, said the man may have been stabbed.

"The officer said that the driver of this car was already stabbed before this happened. Either in pain, or delirious, or losing consciousness that he hit my car and then this happened," he said.

The driver also crashed into concrete bus benches at the intersection of San Fernando Boulevard and Olive Avenue.

It was unclear what led to the initial accident, and traffic detectives were on scene investigating.

The area was closed off for several hours during the investigation, authorities said.
