A man was killed after being struck by a car in Long Beach early Thursday morning as authorities search for the driver who fled the scene.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was killed after being struck by a car in Long Beach early Thursday morning as authorities search for the driver who fled the scene.

The incident happened around 2:50 a.m. on Anaheim Street near the southbound 710 Freeway. Authorities responded to the area and found a man, who they believe may have been homeless, dead at the scene.

Authorities said the man may have been in his 30s. Police did not have a description of the vehicle or the driver.

Both directions of Anaheim Street were closed between Oregon and Harbor Avenue and the eastbound off-ramps for the 710 Freeway until shortly before 7 a.m.

Anyone with more information was urged to call the Long Beach Police Department.

The investigation was ongoing.
