VERNON, Calif. (KABC) -- A man in his 40s died after being rescued from the roof of a Farmer John property in Vernon Tuesday night.

Firefighters responded to a report of a man on the roof at about 9 p.m. on the 3000 block of Vernon Avenue Tuesday, according to the Vernon Police Department, near the intersection of Soto Street and Vernon.

The man's injury somehow involved a cooling unit.

The man, who was only described as being in his 40s, was hospitalized at Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center. He was declared dead at about 1 a.m., according to the L.A. County Coroner's Office.

The cause of death was not released.
