Mandatory evacuations issued for Mesa Fire in Lompoc

LOMPOC, Calif. (KABC) -- More than 1,400 residents were asked to evacuate Monday after a fast-moving brush fire broke out in Lompoc just north of Santa Barbara.

Dubbed the Mesa Fire, the flames were reported at about 1:30 p.m. and burned at least 300 acres.

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for Cebada Canyon. An evacuation warning was issued for residents in the Mission Hills area from Via Lato to Calle Lindero, Gypsy Canyon and Tularosa Road.

An evacuation center was set up at Trinity Church of the Nazarene at 500 E. North Ave.

For small animal assistance, owners were asked to take them to the Lompoc Animal Shelter at 1501 W. Central Ave. For large animal assistance, owners were asked to call the Animal Services Hotline at (805) 681-4332.
