MAR VISTA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was taken into custody in connection to a hot-prowl burglary in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles Friday morning following an hours-long search.

The suspect allegedly broke into the bedroom of an occupied home near Palms Boulevard and McLaughlin Avenue at about 1:45 a.m., police said.

The bedroom he entered was not occupied. The suspect was able to flee the scene with personal items, including a purse.

The suspect then attempted to break into a second home nearby.

"He had left the home prior to them being aware that he was actually in there, but another citizen did confront him and tried to tackle him, in fact, but he got away," said Lt. Joseph Sanchez.

K9 units were brought in and the entire area was sealed off until he was found. No one was injured.

Sanchez said there have been numerous burglaries in the area in the past few weeks.

No further details were immediately released by the Los Angeles and Culver City police departments.
