HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man visiting from New York is on a desperate hunt to find his dog.

"Emily Lane" was in a backpack that was taken outside the W Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood.

It happened as the dog's owner, Juan Cruz, said he was loading bags into his Uber ride.

"I go to shelters everyday hoping to find her, I put flyers up," Cruz said emotionally. "I get a new lead and every time they tell me a new area and I go to that area."

Emily Lane is a Chihuahua-terrier mix with hazel eyes, light blond hair and a fohawk.

Cruz said he refuses to leave California without his best friend and is offering a $5,000 reward for her safe return.

If you have any information that can help Cruz find Emily Lane, you are urged to text or call him at (917) 202-3229.
