CYPRESS, Calif. (KABC) -- The Cypress Police Department is praising an officer's actions after he avoided slamming into a woman who was sitting in the middle of the road. The dash cam video has been released.

Officer Juan Robles was responding to an unrelated call around 3 a.m. on July 4 when a figure suddenly appeared in his headlights.

The officer managed to brake and swerve just in time to avoid hitting the woman.

"It really is a testament to the quality of Officer Robles' skills, his instinct and his alertness, and really his commitment to professionalism to be able to be so sharp at 3 in the morning and avoid a collision like this," said Cypress police Chief Jackie Gomez-Whiteley.

The officer turned around and learned the woman was having a medical issue. He offered her assistance and offered to call an ambulance, which ended up not being needed.
