Beloved pet birds reunited with owners after being stolen from Loma Linda home; 2 suspects arrested

LOMA LINDA, Calif. (KABC) -- Two beloved pet birds were reunited with their owners after allegedly being stolen from a Loma Linda home by a man and woman who have since been arrested.

Ghost, an African grey parrot, and Fred, a cockatoo, were taken Friday afternoon from the patio of their home, where they live with their owners Dr. Clyde Roggenkamp and his wife, Kirsty.

"Fred yells at everybody who goes by because he wants their attention," Kirsty Roggenkamp said of the bird that her husband has had since 1981, when he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Two suspects in a large blue and white pickup truck were initially sought in the connection with the theft, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

"I didn't think he was going to come back," Clyde Roggenkamp said. "All those thoughts and memories were washing over me. I just thought, 'Well, I'll just never see him again.'"

The Roggenkamps filed a police report and prayed over the loss. Then a caller who saw a social media post about the abduction called in a tip.

"They were able to provide us with a description of what they thought may be some good information that would lead us to the house where the birds were being kept," said sheriff's spokesman Tony Romero.

The tip led authorities to the home of 41-year-old Yesenia Castro, and to Ghost, then to 27-year-old Fabian Constantino and Fred.

"I couldn't believe it," Kirsty Roggenkamp said of seeing her birds again. "It was just amazing-so wonderful."

Castro and Constantino were each taken into custody and booked on suspicion of grand theft, according to the Sheriff's Department.
