Fairfield police say boy stabbed abusive stepfather to death
Police say a 10-year-old boy in Fairfield who's accused of fatally stabbing his abusive stepfather to save his mom was not detained and it's likely he'll never be charged.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KABC) -- A 10-year-old boy is accused of stabbing his stepdad to death in order to save his mother in Fairfield, California, over the weekend.

"There's a lot of blood on the ground. It's a very unusual scene. I'm not sure what is going on yet," an officer responding to the scene early Sunday morning can be heard saying in newly released audio.

People in the affluent neighborhood recalled frequently hearing arguments between 45-year-old Tim Aldrich and his wife.

"It's definitely a sad situation all around," Fairfield Police Officer Kathryn McCormick said. "Unfortunately children who are witnessing domestic violence, it sounds like he was truly afraid for his mom's safety at that time."

According to authorities, Aldrich had a history of domestic violence.

In December of 2013, he was arrested for corporal injury to spouse. Then in October of 2014, he was charged with battery against his wife.

In both cases, charges were eventually dropped, citing insufficient evidence.

Court documents revealed the family also filed for bankruptcy in February.

Police said they would not detain the 10-year-old boy and it's unlikely he will be charged in the death of Aldrich.
