Huntington Beach police are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to abduct a 15-year-old girl Wednesday morning while she was on her way to school.

Police said the Marina High School student was approached by a man near Bolsa Chica Street and Heil Avenue. The suspect drove up next to her and then got out of his car and asked her how old she was.

"She tells him she's 15 years old and then proceeds to try and walk away from him," said officer Jennifer Marlatt. "At that time, he grabs her by the arm, she's able to break free of his grip."

Once she broke free, the girl hurried to school and then called her mother and 911.

Students said news of the incident made them more aware of the dangers that can happen in places most people deem safe.

"It makes me want to hold my keys out or be prepared if something does happen," said student Mckenzie Willis.

Police described the suspect as 35 to 40 years old, 5-feet 8-inches tall with long blondish gray hair. The girl said he was driving a 2010-2012 dark gray Honda or Hyundai with tinted front windows.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Huntington Beach Police at (714)375-5066.
