LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The sister of one of the victims injured following a fatal boat crash in the waters off Catalina Island talks about her sibling's tough recovery ahead.

Kelly Wells was looking forward to a future with her boyfriend Michael Harris. But the 25-year-old doesn't know that her boyfriend was killed when the dinghy they were on collided with a boat near Descano Bay. Two of their other friends were hurt and one remains missing at sea.

Harris, the son of former San Francisco 49ers CEO Peter Harris, and Wells were dating for more than two years. Reid Wells said Harris was the center of her sister's life.

"It's going to be hard to tell her that Michael's life is over, but hers isn't and she can move on from this. It's not going to feel like that for a long time," she said.

The Wells family is grateful Kelly is alive, but are grief-stricken that her other half is now gone. Reid said Harris was "too good to be true." The couple lived in San Francisco and were planning to move in together. Harris' brothers were encouraging him to pop the question.

Wells remains in the ICU at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with her family by her bedside, preparing for the painful conversation they will have regarding Harris' fate.

"We knew that was her future. Michael was her future. So it's going to be an overhaul of everything that she knew," Reid said.

Wells is set to undergo extensive surgery on her injured jaw. The search for her missing friend and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
