SKID ROW, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A search is underway for a newborn baby after a woman was found on Skid Row showing signs that she may have given birth.

Authorities say someone walked into the LAPD central division around 4 p.m. Thursday and reported having seen a woman who had blood all over her legs.

That began a search throughout Skid Row, and officers were able to locate the woman. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors were not able to determine whether the woman had given birth or if she had a miscarriage.

Officers were searching for a newborn baby, going through dumpsters and combing through garbage, but nothing has been found so far.

Homeless people in the area have been questioned, but they did not have information on where the woman may have given birth or had a miscarriage.

The LAPD child abuse unit is handling the investigation. According to a detective on the case, the mother is not cooperating.

Officers continue to canvass Skid Row, and if a body is found that is determined to be the woman's baby, she will face criminal charges.
