Suspect charged with murder in Tustin stabbing

TUSTIN, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect was charged with murder Tuesday in connection to a stabbing that left a 39-year-old man dead near Red Hill and Mitchell avenues in Tustin last month.

The suspect, 51-year-old Robert Wilson, was arrested without incident on Aug. 26 in Riverside County, Tustin police said. He was formally charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, and his bail was set at $1 million.

On Aug. 18., police responded to a report of a man bleeding in the 14200 block of Red Hill Avenue around 3:17 p.m. The victim, 39-year-old Robert Carranza, had been stabbed near Frontier Park.

Carranza was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Wilson, of Tustin, has an extensive prior criminal history which includes arrests for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. The suspect was on parole at the time of the crime.
