CANYON COUNTRY, SANTA CLARITA (KABC) -- An armed parolee was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Thursday morning after barricading himself inside a shed in Canyon Country for several hours.

The standoff began around 5 p.m. Wednesday when the man, who was wanted on a parole violation, ran from deputies, prompting evacuations near the 19600 block of Babington Street.

A resident later told Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies that his dog alerted him to the fact that the man was hiding in his shed. Deputy Trina Schrader said the suspect fired a weapon from inside the shed as a SWAT team tried to convince him to surrender.

The suspect's body was discovered inside the shed around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. No deputies were injured in the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
