Suspect in stolen weapon probe shot by police in Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A man believed to be in possession of a stolen weapon was shot by police in Whittier and hospitalized.

La Habra police said officers were trying to pull over and question a suspect in a stolen weapon investigation in the 10000 block of Tigrina Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officers say the suspect stopped the car and started running. According to authorities, the officer-involved shooting happened sometime during the foot chase.

Investigators said the man was struck by a bullet and was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.

Police said a gun was recovered at the scene.
