RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A man crossing the street was struck and killed by a car, and the driver fled the scene in Riverside Saturday night.

Riverside police said calls came in around 9:52 p.m. on reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car on Columbia Avenue, west of Mulberry Street.

When authorities arrived, they found a 42-year-old man suffering from fatal injuries. Witnesses told police that the man was crossing the street when he was hit by a silver sedan heading westbound on Columbia Avenue.

The driver did not stop and continued driving westbound on Columbia after the crash, witnesses said.

The name of the man killed would not be released pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with more information was urged to call Detective Felix Soria at (951) 826-8720.
