TARZANA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A teenage girl has died, and friends say she was car surfing in Tarzana when it happened.

The 15-year-old girl was lying in the road on the 3500 block of Reseda Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Friends took her to the hospital where she died.

Bouquets of roses rested against the curb Tuesday in memory of Tsofia Mesica. Her friends can't believe she's gone.

"I saw her last week. We were hanging out with her last week, and now hearing about this is crazy," said Shaked Kadosh, Mesica's friend.

Police and paramedics were called Monday night to Reseda Boulevard where the road ends at Mulholland Gateway Park. The call was to help an injured teenager.

"This 15-year-old female suffered some very serious injuries. She was transported via private vehicle to a local hospital where unfortunately she lost her life," said Det. Bill Bustos of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Detectives are still investigating how the accident happened, but friends say she was car surfing.

"She was car surfing, holding onto the side vehicle, and the driver he pushed on the gas pedal, and I guess she slipped off, and she fell and hit her head," said Liam Giat, Mesica's friend.

Giat and Kadosh say Mesica was a student at YULA, an Orthodox Jewish high school in Los Angeles. They say her death is hard to accept. Mesica was fun, outgoing and spontaneous.

"Amazing, such a nice girl, and she was always there for everyone," said Kadosh.

Authorities say they don't believe drug or alcohol were factors in this accident.
