Hossein Nayeri, 37, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, were arrested by the San Francisco Police Department shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday near Golden Gate Park.

A man flagged down officers after noticing a parked van that looked like one believed stolen by the trio of inmates during the brazen escape, which was carried out on Jan. 22.

Officers approached Nayeri, the suspected mastermind of the jail break, near Waller and Stanyan Streets, where a foot pursuit ensued. He was apprehended shortly after.

The suspicious van was then located at Haight and Stanyan streets, where officers said they discovered Tieu hiding inside with ammunition but no gun. They apprehended him and then transported both escapees to Park Station for further investigation.

On Jan. 22, the trio sawed through a metal grate covering a plumbing tunnel, then crawled through piping to reach the jail's roof. There, they pushed aside barbed wire and used a rope made of bedsheets to rappel four stories to the ground.

Nayeri and Tieu were transferred from the San Francisco County Jail back to the Orange County Central Men's Jail after being interviewed by sheriff's deputies.
